Sheffield United's chief executive Stephen Bettis faced questions from fans and media on Tuesday on behalf of the club's owners, continuing a pattern of him being the sole representative to address supporters' concerns.

Current ownership Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltouky have not directly addressed fans during the 18 months since taking over the club. This period has been marked by what observers describe as errors, unusual decision-making, and the placement of trust in people who later proved problematic.

Owners' Absence and Bettis's Role

Bettis has regularly stepped in to field questions the club's owners should be answering. While he communicates effectively with media and responds to fan inquiries, the responsibility has fallen entirely on him despite many issues originating from decisions made above his level.

During the interview, Bettis became noticeably more animated when discussing his achievements over a decade at Bramall Lane. This contrast highlighted that positive work he has undertaken often goes unrecognised while he is regularly tasked with defending the missteps of others.

Financial Debt and Points Deduction Risk

The club owes former owner Prince Abdullah a suggested £35 million. The English Football League and the independent football regulator are currently reviewing the liquidation of former club holding company COH Sports. A points deduction remains possible, though Bettis indicated a "wait and see" approach is being taken as this process continues.

Revenue from player sales this summer will not be available for spending in January, Bettis confirmed.

Academy and Training Plans

Bettis provided updates on the club's plan to reach Category 1 status for the academy and the new training facility in Dore.
